I think the Old French Fort in Chou Doc that you mention on your site was referred to as the SeaBee House. I was stationed there as the assistant NILO (Naval Intelligence Liaison Officer) and visited the YRBM 20 (we called it the barracks barge) daily to pick up and deliver message traffic.
I was in Chou Doc from January 1970 till about June 1970, then I moved to Can Tho. I occasionally caught a ride with PBR's off the YRBM 20 and had my Boston Whaler repaired there several times.
The SeaBees picked up some t-bones and lobsters one Sunday and cooked them at the SeaBee house. Drove the Army guys at the MACV compound next to us nuts. We also had a couple doctors and some corpsmen that lived there and it was a lot like M.A.S.H. We did crazy stuff to keep from going crazy, like water skiing on the Mekong.
